Colorado: Let’s Go Nuclear

A strange thing happened in Colorado on Valentine’s Day in 2023.

A panel of seven state legislators – five democrats and two republicans – voted 5-2 that nuclear energy should not be included in the state’s definition of Clean Energy.

Does that seem strange to you? It did to me. I was in the room. I testified, as did 11 other advocates FOR nuclear energy while only 2 individuals testified against. And I sat absolutely dumfounded after the democrats voted against nuclear. Aren’t they supposed to be the champions of the clean energy movement? As an engineer, it’s blatantly obvious – based on mountains of data – that nuclear energy is the cleanest and safest energy in existence. Why are they turning down the energy champion of the environment?

This proved to me there’s still a lot of work to do in Colorado and throughout the world to change the hearts and minds of the public. We’re making strides in that direction, but until then, we’re going to use this page as a repository for all the places in the world who ARE going nuclear and consider it to be clean energy. The list below isn’t exhaustive. In fact, I was able to research all of these news articles in less than 30 minutes from just headlines which came out in February of 2023.

The truth is, a mistake was made that day based on partisan politics, and it’s going to hurt Colorado, America, and the world in the long run. It’s our responsibility to speak up, educate our friends, communities, and representatives.

  • Poland advances deal with Westinghouse. They’re also advocating for the rest of Europe to support nuclear.
